Religious leaders are praying and traditionalists are making rituals in Akungba Akoko, Ondo State to find the kidnappers of the regent of the town, Oluwatoyin Omosowon.
The rituals are also intended to keep her safe and ensure her unconditional release.
It was learnt that the rituals include lighting of a candle-like fire beside the throne and covering the seat of the monarch, which typifies that she is alive but has gone on a short journey.
A source disclosed that the kidnappers have made only one contact in which they demanded a ransom of N20 million.
Akungba Akoko has been engulfed in Obaship tussle, the climax of which was the abduction of Omosowon together with her two aides on Owo-Ikare Road on her way to an official engagement on Tuesday, June 2.
The kidnappers allegedly used a car belonging to Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko.
Peace has eluded the town in the past 11 years following the death of the traditional ruler, Adekanye Omosowon. Kingmakers cannot agree on who should succeed him.
Omosowon is the third regent after the removal of her predecessors over alleged insubordination to the traditional institution.
Trouble began when she reportedly urged kingmakers and chiefs at a public function to prepare for the installation of a new traditional ruler as she had made up her mind to return to her family in Lagos.
Shortly after, the 45 year-old Omosowon was abducted by unknown men.
The town has called on security agents to ensure her unconditional release.
Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident and said Police Commissioner, Isaac Eke, has led detectives to the town to ensure the release of Omosowon and her two aides.
