The Apapa Area one Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Tuesday said it recorded 95,229.15 Metric tons of exported commodities with a Free On Board (FOB) value of $46,613,453.75 , between January and June 2019.
The flagship command of the service also disclosed that it generated a whooping N203,264,054,682.69 within the period under review.
Speaking at a press briefing on the activities of the command within the last six months, Controller in charge of the command, Comptroller Mohammed Abba Kura noted that the exported commodities for the year experience tremendous increase against 2018.
Abba-Kura stated that the revenue generated from export with an equivalent of N14,258,443,706.63, were mostly agricultural and mineral products.
While harping on the total figures recorded for the year under review, the customs boss reiterated that the command has a monthly revenue target of N31,046,655,039.35 and a yearly N372,458,869,472.23.
According to him, the 2019 figure represents 54.5% of the annual revenue target of the command.
He added that the command had a monthly revenue target of N31,046,655,039.35 and yearly target of N372,559,860,472.23.
“The first half collection of the command in 2019 records N26,507,298,510.24 higher than the corresponding period in 2018.”
He explained that the command seized 29 containers of various items that contravened import procedures.
Continuing, the controller added: “These items include; tomato paste, vegetable oil, ladies and girls fashion footwear, tramadol and other drugs.
“It also includes Armoured glasses without End User Certificates and drilling pipes labelled in foreign language among other items.
“All the latest items have breached the Federal Government Fiscal Policy Measures for 2018/2019. The Duty Paid Value of these items stands at N418,437,048.”
The Controller promised to give accelerated clearance to legitimate compliant and all trade that have satisfied the necessary procedures concerning the transaction from the port.
He also assured officers and stakeholders operating within the command, capacity building to acquaint them with modern trends, government fiscal policies as well as NICIS 2 operative systems.
While appreciating compliant of officers, he reiterated the resolve of the command to continue to build on the level of professionalism, dedication and sacrifice which contributed the large success recorded in the command in the last six months of 2019.
