.Oshiomhole wants INEC rejigged
By Ishaya Ibrahim
President Muhammadu Buhari has threatened that those who snatch ballot boxes in this Saturday’s election will pay with their lives.
At the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting, he said: “I am going to warn anybody who thinks he has enough influence in his locality to lead a body of thugs to snatch boxes or to disturb the voting system; he will do it at the expense of his own life. Thank you very much.” The meeting was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole; APC governors and party big wigs.
The meeting was earlier being shown live, but suddenly went off air.
There are indications that what happens to the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmoud Yakubu, would preoccupy the meeting.
Oshiomhole had set that tone when he said that the explanation by the INEC chairman was unacceptable.
He said that the APC had complained to the INEC to reshuffle officers of the commission, especially old Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) like in Akwa Ibom State who had become part and parcel of the state.
The REC in Akwa Ibom State is Mike Igini.
The APC chairman also said that he could swear with the Holy Qu’ran that the INEC tipped the PDP of the postponement.
He said that the PDP was launching fake attack against INEC chairman to distract attention of the public from the ties that exist between the party and the commission.
