Zidane, Pochittino, others lined up to take over at Manchester United

With the sacking of Jose Mourinho from Manchester United, speculations are rife that top managers are lined up to take over at Old Trafford.

Earlier this season, Zidane’s agent, Alain Migliaccio, dismissed speculations that he would arrive at Manchester United ‘any time soon’ following his resignation from Real Madrid.

But with the sacking of the ‘special one’, United’s five-year wait for the caliber of Zidane may well have come to an end.

When he left Real, Zidane made it clear that he was not ready to end his much-deserved break from the beautiful game to be in England, much less at United.

He is seen as one out of the few who can bring out the best from attacking talents like Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Marshall and Alexis Sanchez whom all seemed at a loss this season.

His success at the world’s biggest football club, combined with his availability, makes him the outstanding candidate to replace Mourinho.

Mauricio Pochittino, though enjoying the time of his life at Tottenham Hotspur, is another man who ticks the box for United’s job.

The Argentinian’s Spurs has been fabulous this season. He has developed the team and built it around Dele Alli and Harry Kane, they are currently competing for the elite title in England.

They have consistently qualified for Champions League despite not having enough financial muscle, like United under Mourinho.

It is unlikely he would abandon Spurs to take up the top job at Manchester United because of ‘the current chaos’ at Old Trafford.

“His sparkling Spurs team is yet to convert its potential into tangible, trophy success. Pochettino will surely want to achieve at least that when the club moves into its spectacular new stadium in 2019,” Analysts say.

Whether or not, United finds a manager to remedy whatever is left of the team this season, one thing remains clear, it would take strong manager, not money this time, to salvage it from its sixth position where it is currently languishing.
