The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday admitted that it was yet to agree on who will fly its governorship flag in Imo State in the 2019 general elections
The party’s effort to pick its governorship crisis ended in crisis with the emergence of two candidates – Uche Nwosu, Governor Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law and Senator Hope Uzodinma.
While the governor and the APC national chairman are backing Mr. Nwosu, Uzodinma has the support of some stakeholders in the state opposed to Okorocha.
But speaking on the matter on Wednesday, the APC National Publicity Secretary , Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, who granted an interview to journalists at the APC National Secretariat on some of the party’s post-primary issues, said the party was yet to decide on its governorship flag-bearer in the state.
The publicity secretary said the party will wait for the court to make a pronouncement on the matter, promising that they will abide by whatever decision the court takes.
“The issue of submission of governorship candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) falls due on November 2, so we haven’t reached the stage where we will submit names or beat the deadline,” Issa-Onilu said.
On the Imo debacle specifically, he added, “You are aware that there was a court action challenging the Imo governorship primary election. The position of the party is that whatever court judgment, good or bad we must comply with it. We will only decide who will be APC’s governorship candidate for Imo State by November 2.”
