A director on the board of the League Management Company (LMC) and General Manager of Heartland FC of Owerri, Prince Okechukwu Ibe has advised all the 20 premier league clubs in the country to ensure that they make judicious use of the financial incentives as approved to them by the last Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the body.
Ibe who spoke in Owerri on Thursday, said during the AGM held recently at Top Rank Galaxy Hotel Utako, Abuja, which was attended by both the club owners and the LMC board of directors, the board approved financial incentives that would total about N40million to the clubs.
“In the history of Nigeria football, this is the first time a league organizing body would be approving this tune of financial incentive to the clubs and the aim is to enable them improve their clubs,” he said.
“Let me remind here that it is very necessary for the clubs to adhere strictly to the instructions on how to apply the funds they get from the LMC. They are well aware of the details and the board will continue to supervise them,” Ibe added.
The former Falcons FC (Enyimba Int’l FC) of Aba defender who is representing the South East on the league board, also urged the clubs to support the LMC wholeheartedly in the implementation of its policies and programmes targeted at promoting the league.
Ibe applauded the LMC management, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Federal Government through the Ministry of Sports for the effort to bring back liveliness and sanity into the local league.
‘’Right now, many good programmes have been approved and efforts are in the pipeline to raise the standard of the league. By the time the programmes are fully implemented, many people will prefer to stay back and play in the Nigeria league than to run to abroad in search of club opportunity,” he promised.
