.Pledges synergy with stakeholders.
Comptroller Musa Abdullahi, the area controller, Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs (NCS) has said that he came with a mission to set standards at the command.
Abdullahi also pledged to continue to synergise with stakeholders to ensure that the command achieved its goals in terms of generating revenue to the Federal Government and the fight against smugglers.
The CAC made the pledge when the executive members of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) paid a courtesy visit to the command over the weekend.
He said that the command had put in place various strategies to ensure quick, effective and efficient clearance of cargos, within 48 hours and by extension improve on the Federal Government Executive Order on Ease of Doing Business.
According to him, the command is ensuring that the systems are operational and that standards are set for the quick clearance procedures and timely release of goods.
Abdullahi said that the command through the Dispute Resolution Committee created by the command had ensured that conflicts are amicably and quickly resolved to the satisfaction of all the parties.
“If conflicts are not resolved at that level, then it comes to the CAC, and if it is not resolved at his level, it is then taken to the headquarters.”
He revealed that the command was undergoing vigorous training of its workforce, saying that officers are undergoing series of training for efficient performance.
Ismail Aniemu, the AMJON president, had said that before now the association and the command had enjoyed a very good rapport.
He noted also that there was improvement on what was on ground since the new area controller took over the command.
“We are not unaware of your intervening efforts in addressing stakeholders complaints. We are also not unaware of the efforts you have put in place in bringing people very close to ensure that they are compliant to the rules. We are also not unaware of the various strategies you put in place to curb infractions in the system,” adding that all these were the reasons for the courtesy visit “since we cannot be operating from a distance in the process of adding value to the system and improving on the existing relationship between the command and our association.”
He commended the Public Relation Officer of the command, Uche Ejesieme, saying the command is blessed with one of the best public relations department in the service.
