Delta State government has assured Deltans of even distribution of roads across the state.

The Commissioner for Works, James Augoye, who gave the assurance, said that it was part of the state government’s desire to construct sustainable road network across the state, especially to enhance urban/rural integration for effective evacuation of agricultural produce from agrarian communities.

The commissioner spoke, while inspecting multiple road projects in Aniocha North and Ika North East local government areas in the state.

Augoye,  who expressed satisfaction with the pace and standard of the roads, inspected the construction of the 8.2km Issele-Uku/Onicha-Ugbo road, the continuation of the construction of the 2.43km Issele-Uku-Ugbodu-Ukwunzu-Obomkpa-Idumu-Ogo road and the rehabilitation of the 11.7km Issele-Uku/Issele-Mkpitime/Onicha-Olona road.

He also inspected the construction of 1.150km Mbiri Township road and the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of the 43.4km Umunede/Otolokpo-Ute-Okpu/Ekuku-Agbor/Idemili/Umutu road projects, assuring Deltans of the readiness of the Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration to construct road projects in all the local government areas in the state.

The Works commissioner commended the contactors handling the Issele-Uku/Onicha -Ugbo road and the rehabilitation of Issele – Uku/Issele-Mkpitime road project for efficient performance, saying the projects were completed and ready for commissioning.

At the Issele-Uku /Ugbodu /Ukwunzu/ Obomkpa/ Idumu-Ogo road, which is completed, the commissioner expressed satisfaction with the quality of job done in spite of the alleged problems experienced by the contactor.

While stressing the socio-economic importance of the 11.7km Issele-Uku/Issele-Mkpitime/Onicha –Olona road project, the commissioner called on the affected communities to reciprocate the state government’s gesture by remaining peaceful and law-abiding.

At the ongoing rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of the 43.4km Umunede-Otolokpo-Ute-Okpu/Ekuku-Agbor/Idemili-Umutu, which runs across four local government areas and reported to be the longest road projects embarked by the state government in recent time, Augoye urged the contractor to increase the pace of work so as not to breach the contractual agreement with the state government.

He maintained that the projects when completed would ease transportation of goods and services from rural communities to urban markets.

Augoye called on Deltans to reciprocate government’s gesture by obtaining their PVC to enable them exercise their franchise and vote for Governor Okowa in 2019 for greater dividends.
