The pleasure of aligning with a political candidate with the attendant reward can easily get into some people’s head. Out of excitement, some would do or say things they would likely regret, and have to spend time and money on damage control.

AimakhuWhen the ‘Meet the President’ held recently, two major issues cropped up. The Sheyi Shay’s outfit which many people believe unsettled President Goodluck Jonathan and Nollywood actress Toyin Aimakhu’s utterance.

While on stage, Aimakhu was so carried away that she was quoted to have said “I can die for PDP”. She received so much bashing that she had to dedicate time to do serious damage control.

From her response, it is evident that she is attributing it to ‘pull-him-down’ syndrome.

“We live in a world where people take pleasure in bringing other people down. Don’t let the success of others make you feel resentment against them or envious; simply learn from them and strive to do better,” she explained.

She emphatically said that she will not, in any way, for no reason whatsoever, die for a person or a political party, as the statement was a joke.

“This was me, just doing my job as a host of the event, trying to be funny, which, by the way, worked. It is absurd to take my word out of context,” she explained.

“I love everyone as best as I can, especially my fans. Make your choice, respect the choice of others, let it be, and especially, do not allow the choice of others affect yours. In conclusion, let’s try to help others grow and support them. I wish everyone safe, free and fair election.”
