Five persons were feared killed early yesterday at Oshodi, Lagos in a clash between factional members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) over who should control the motor park.
Witnesses said there were gun shots in the area since Tuesday night, prompting traders at the popular Oshodi market to close their shops.
Several people sustained injuries as they hurried into their shops. About three vehicles were burnt in the fracas, while scores of others had their windscreens shattered. At 11 am yesterday when Daily Trust visited the scene, pieces of broken bottles used by the factions littered the roads.
Passers-by and motorists were also attacked while many were robbed.
Guns, machetes, daggers, broken bottles, charms and other dangerous weapons were freely used during the fracas.
Kenneth Nwosu, Lagos State police spokesman, said only one person died while seven persons were arrested for their involvement.
