Niger State government is to immortalize the late former governor of the state, Abdulkhadir Abdullahi Kure, who died on the 8th of January 8, 2017, in Germany.
The late Kure was the third Executive Governor of Niger state and who served his two terms in office between 1999 and 2007.
Niger State House of Assembly during Tuesday deliberations, under matters of urgent importance, passed the motion seeking to immortalize the late former governor “for the good works he did for the state and Nigeria when he was alive”.
The motion was moved by Adamu Hassan Abugi, a member representing Lapai constituency in the assembly.
The motion, which was unanimously passed by the 27-member house, also suggested three state owned public institutions to the executive arm of government out of which one should be picked for the immortalization.
The public institutions suggested included Niger State College of Agriculture Mokwa, in Mokwa council, Niger State College of Education, Minna; and the Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru in Wushishi Local Government Area.
Speaker of the House, Alhaji Ahmed Marafa Guni, who described the late former governor as “a honest gentleman,” therefore directed the Clerk of the Assembly to immediately communicate the decision to the executive for implementations.
Mover of the motion, Alhaji Adamu Hassan Abugi, said that he was moved by the contributions of the late former governor to the socio-political and economic development of Niger State and because the deceased during his lifetime touched lives and built bridges of friendship across not only the three senatorial zones in the state but across boundaries in Nigeria.
According to Abugi, “The late Abdulkadir Kure was not just a onetime governor but he was a father to many and a mentor to many outside Niger State”.
