NYSC resumes orientation in Yobe after six years

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has resumed orientation of Corps members in Yobe State after six years suspension caused by the Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

The last orientation in Yobe was  in  2011.

The state Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Umaru Joro Daniel, in Potiskum, during the orientation of the for 2016 Batch ‘B’ stream 2 deployed to state.

He commended NYSC, Federal Government and Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, for their support.   He said that peace has finally returned to Yobe State and Northeast region. “Today we are happy, we are glad for having our orientation camp in Yobe,” he said.

The 2,050 Corps members were deployed to the state.

He disclosed: “Registration of Corps members started this this 24th January 2017 morning by 7:00am and you can see they are trooping in; we are expecting 2,050 Corps members.”

Daniel assured that adequate security had been put in place with officials from the Army, Police, Department of State Security, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NDLEA and other volunteers.

He explained that Yobe State government had provided the facility at College of Administrative and Business Studies, Potiskum, Yobe State as a temporary camp pending the repairs on the dilapidated Permanent Orientation Camp in Fika town.

“Sincerely, I have to commend our NYSC headquarters, Military, Police, Yobe State Government for the support and cooperation given to us since we began talks, their positive reports enabled our headquarters to approve this orientation exercise.”

Responding, Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, represented by the Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Development, Tijjani Zanna Zakariyya,  welcomed the Corps members to the state.

He advised them to fully participate in every activity and internalize all that will be taught.
