Results of the 6, 000 candidates who sat for the National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) have been released following Niger State government’s remittance of N300, 000 (three hundred thousand naira) being part of the monies paid by candidates for both examinations.

NECO with its headquarters in Minna, the state capital, last Friday announced the release of the June/July 2016 SSCE examination results but withheld had that of candidates who sat for the examination in the state because did not remit monies collected from the candidates to the outfits.

Parents had paid for their wards in their respective schools but the state government through the state Ministry of Education who coordinated the payments allegedly diverted the monies prompting the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and NECO to withhold the results.

In response to allegations of diverting monies meant for WAEC and NECO candidates by parents, Niger State Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Fatima Madugu, told our correspondent that the state government was owning NECO alone N200 million.

But shortly after news of Niger State government diverting monies meant for WAEC and NECO went viral Tuesday, the commissioner and the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ketso, on the orders of Governor Sani Bello, who is on overseas trip, rallied round to raise N300, 000, which was paid to both examination bodies.

Our correspondent gathered that Governor Sani Bello , having read the reports directed that the money be sourced to ensure immediate release of the results.

The Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Jide Orintunsin, confirmed that the state government has paid, 200, 000 to WAEC and N100, 000 to NECO, amounting to N300, 000 (three hundred thousand Naira) for the release of results of the candidates.

According to Orintunsin, “We have been able to pay N300, 000 for the release of the exams results. We paid N200, 000 to WAEC and N100, 000 to NECO. As I am speaking to you now I believe the candidates have been able or are checking their results”.
