Journalists in Yobe State have been commended for their efforts in sensitizing Nigerians on the nation’s economic challenges. Emir of Fika and Chairman, Yobe State Council of Chiefs, Dr. Muhammadu Ibn Abali Muhammadu Idrissa, made the commendation when the officials of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe chapter, paid him a courtesy call at his Potiskum Palace. The monarch said, “The public need to be enlightened to appreciate the global economic recession and fall in price of oil.” He however appealed for patience. His words: “There is a global economic recession. It has also affected Nigeria because of the mono
economy with over-dependence on oil, which has collapsed in the international market.
“The challenge before the media includes the good efforts of the federal government to salvage the situation.” The monarch said that traditional institutions in the state were in partnership with security operatives to ensure stable peace across the state.
“We appreciate government efforts in containing peace and security in the Northeast. Normalcy is gradually returning but
I wish to call for more assistance to the internally displaced persons in the state.
“We are also working in partnership with healthcare providers and non-governmental organizations for successful immunization coverage in the state.” He commended the media for working under risky environment and enduring the six-year Boko Haram onslaught in the state.
Responding, the Chairman, NUJ Yobe chapter, Alhaji Yusuf Isa, pleaded for support and cooperation to enhance working conditions of journalists in the state.
He commended the traditional institution for its contributions to security and development of the state.
Things will be definitely better. Peace has gradually returned in the Northeast. He commended the federal government for the restoration of peace in the area.
