The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Idris Kpotun Ibrahim, has reiterated the determination of the Nigerian Police Force to fight crime in the country with the right approach and equipment with collaborative efforts of eminent Nigerians.
Acting IGP Kpotun made the declaration ahead of the new strategies to nip all forms of criminalities in the bud while inaugurating the Niger State ‘Eminent People’s Forum’ (EPF) as directed to all the 36 commissioners of Police and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Ibrahim, represented by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Zone 7, Alikali Baba Usman, said that the NPF would be guided by international core values of policing with integrity, and compliance with the principles of democratic policing and rule of law.
“Getting eminent Nigerians involved in the fight against crime and other forms of criminalities is the best way to check increased wave of crime as it will foster partnership with the Police in crime prevention, control maintain peace and security in the various communities so as to bridge the gap between the public and the police,” he said.
He said that the present day police inherited daunting task of restoring civil authority to the North-East which included cattle rustling in the North-Central, kidnapping among others in the South-South and South East with also the problems of economic sabotage (militancy).
Niger State Police Commissioner, Zubairu Muazu, also spoke after the event.
He said that the inauguration was in compliance with the IGs directives to partner with eminent people in the communities to ensure security of lives and properties of citizenry.
For effective policing of Niger State, Mu’azu said that he has established Joint Operation Centre at the state police headquarters, made up of all uniform security outfits with the intent of having a working synergy during operations for better results.
Governor Abubarkar Sani Bello who was represented by his Special Senior Adviser on Security, General Imam Ibrahim (rtd), call on communities to report strange movements and people with questionable character or assembly in their domain to the security agencies.
