Ramadan: Niger govt urges traders to reduce prices of commodities

-

The Niger Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Jonathan Vatsa, on Thursday appealed to traders in the state to reduce prices of commodities in this holy month of Ramadan.

Vatsa told journalists in Minna that it was unfair to increase the prices of food during Ramadan.

“We are all experiencing hard times; so we should not add to it by increasing the prices of goods and services unjustly’’, he said.

According to him, reducing the prices of food stuffs during Ramadan and thereafter attracts rich rewards from Allah, the Creator of the universe.

The commissioner said that recent market survey revealed that prices of food items in Niger, especially in Minna markets, were higher than any other market in the north central states.

He described the situation as unpleasant, adding that food items used to be cheaper in the state compared to other states of the federation.

Vatsa, therefore, called on the traders to reduce prices of goods and services during Ramadan to enable them to get closer to Allah.
