Voting continues as AFRIMA 2014 gets new date

The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has undergone some urgent modifications to help the organisers better host Africa and the rest of the world.

The organisers, in a statement signed by the Project Director, Ms. Adenrele Niyi, explained that a major continental sponsor of AFRIMA was unable to conclude its commitment by the deadline required to deliver on the world-class event.

“Despite that Nigeria has been certified Ebola-free by World Health Organisation (WHO), the sponsor stated concerns over the increasing scourge of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in some West African countries from where nominees, awardees and guests are expected and the yet-to-be-resolved insurgency in Northern Nigeria,” she stated.

“A wise, albeit painful decision. The goals and aspirations of AFRIMA remain unchanged, as well as the commitment of AFRIMA’s regional directors. This should not diminish the determination of the AFRIMA team to find a solution. It can only be a glittering, well-produced event that can be the culmination of so much effort. Nothing less will suffice,” explained AFRIMA international Advisor, Rikki Stein over the postponement of the award ceremony.

While thanking music fans for their support to the actualisation of this continental project, the International Committee of AFRIMA apologised for inconveniences the development may cause their partners and stakeholders across the world.

“We hope to get back to Africa soon with more details about the new date as we continue to look forward to having the world with us,” Ms. Niyi said.

She added that despite the development, the AFRIMA International Committee is still committed to delivering a world class event at a later date.

However, the public and AFRIMA Academy voting on the AFRIMA website has been extended by three weeks. It will now end on Tuesday, November 25, and that means music fans still have more time to vote for their favourite artistes.
