21 teenagers abducted from Katsina farm regain freedom

The teenagers, most of them girls, were abducted by gunmen from a farm in Katsina on October 30.

Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the release of 21 teenagers abducted from a farm in Mairuwa in Faskari Local Government Area.

The teenagers, between the ages of 16 and 21, were kidnapped from the farm days ago.

Katsina Police spokesman, SP Gambo Isa, announced their release on Saturday in a statement, but did not state whether ransom was paid or not.

“It is with great joy that I announce the release of all the 21 abducted teenage workers that were kidnapped while working on a farmland at Kamfanin Mai Lafiya village in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

“They have already been reunited with their families, while investigation is on-going,’’ Isa stated.

The teenagers, most of them girls, were abducted by gunmen from a farm on October 30.

Isah had told VOA that the victims include 17 females and four males.

“In the local government area where the incident happened we have a unit of the military there. So we are working assiduously with the view of (rescuing) the victims alive and unhurt by the special grace of God,” he said before the victims were released.

A local village chief told Reuters news agency that the kidnappers demanded about $68,000 in ransom.
