Ahead of 2019 general election, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Abia State chapter, has appealed to Senator Ike Nwachukwu for support.
The party further said that it was poised to remedy, recreate and redesign the state if voted into power in 2019.
The state Steering Committee Chairman of the party, Chief Chidi Nwosu, disclosed this when he led the state working committee of the party on Advocacy visit to the former senator in his Ovim country home in Isuikwuato council of Abia State.
He said that they came to appeal to the senator and elder statesman for his blessing.
“SDP as a party in 1993 won election but it was truncated by the military. This time, it is going to replicate what it did then in the next election. Our party will produce leaders that will not only govern Abia State but Nigeria as a whole hence we have come to see you for your support.
“In Abia, PDP government has done nothing. No industries and the only booming business is mortuaries due to death caused by hunger and poverty,” he said.
Also, the acting chairman of the party in Abia State, Chief Lawrence Irokansi, described SDP as a united family with the mandate to change the political landscape of the state and Nigeria in general and begged the senator to back them even as the woman leader of the party in Isuikwuato, Princess Nkechi Daniel, joined other party chieftain to solicit for the support of the former Army general.
The convener of the party in Abia State, Ambassador E.O. Philips, said that SDP believe in the restructuring of Nigeria, adding that since the former senator is an advocate for restructuring, there was need for him to support the party to change the change.
The SDP chieftain said he was among the party leadership that visited the former Nigerian military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, to seek his support, adding that they also came for the senator’s endorsement.
“SDP died before and has resurrected and will not die again. in Nigeria.
PDP, APC are nearing their grave and cannot resurrect again”.
Responding, the retired Army General and former senator thanked the party leadership in Abia for visiting him and gave his blessing for the party to succeed. He charged SDP not to work and run the party like PDP and APC, noting that imposition and impunity were the cause of the failure of most political parties.
“See APC has started imposition with unopposed here and there during the last congress it held. Let there be democratic election. Do not be like other parties. Allow candidates to be voted for,” he advised.
While advising them to avoid political violence that may claim human lives, he urged them to ensure that their members get voters card to enable them vote whosoever they want to lead the nation.
Reacting, a Chieftain of the party and a member of the steering committee in Abia State Dr. Ikechukwu Mborogwu who spoke to our correspondent after the event expressed hope that with the support and blessing of the former senator, SDP will win Abia in 2019. He advised party members to avoid acts that might bring leadership problem for the interest of the party and its agenda.
