Kayode Egbetokun, the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State has knocked police officers who have a penchant for searching people’s phone on the road.

He said the practice of searching peoples phone for the purpose of extorting them is illegal, criminal and attracts a stiff penalty.

“It’s unethical to seize and start searching anybody’s mobile phone on the road. The practice of searching the phone of an individual on the road for evidence of internet fraud amounts to conducting a roadside investigation,” he stated.

He said he is worried when police officers stop people on the highway and search their phones.

According to him, these officers also demand money from people before they can retrieve their phones.

EndSars campaigner, Segun Awosanya, known as Segalink commended Egbetokun.

“This is a responsible CP. Why FHQ is yet to release the same communique beats my imagination. Why the IGP is yet to warn these rogues in uniform not to demand phones and ATM card shocks me. Kudos to the CP of Kwara for addressing the Elephant in the Room,” he said.
