Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the February 23 elections, Atiku Abubakar has distanced himself from a GoFundMe account set up by supporters to help him challenge Buhari’s victory in court.
Atiku, through his media aide, Phrank Shuaibu, said he is not in any way connected to the account. He, however, acknowledged it as a private initiative.
“We do not know anything about it. We are not in any way connected to it but we consider it as a purely private initiative of the promoters,” he said.
The account has since generated $800,00 (N288,000) within 24 hours out of the $100,000 (N36 million) target.
The account has generated a lot of controversy on social media with many saying Atiku is rich enough to fund his court case.
Prominent people, including #EndSars activist, Segun Awosanya, popularly called Segalink, has been promoting the account on social media.
It was also reported that there have been multiple accounts set up in the name of Atiku.
The account has since been taken down.
