United believe that appointing Zidane is their best chance to bring silverware back to Old Trafford given the fact that Solskjaer is yet to win one after three seasons.

While the club are working to persuade him to take the job, It is believed that the French man is skeptical and unsure if it is the right job to take at this point.

United knows this and are keen to exploit the close relationship between two of their summer signings, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane and Zidane to persuade him.

In contrast to the current United manager, Zidane has won three Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles across his two spells at Real Madrid.

He is now a free agent after quitting the Bernabeu for a second time in May and is thought to be waiting for the right opportunity to return to management.

He has also been linked with the France job but could lose patience with current boss Didier Deschamps, unlikely to leave before next year’s World Cup.

The top brass at Old Trafford were initially hesitant to part ways with Solskjaer and were prepared to give him a chance to turn things around.

But with four losses in 6 Premier League games, including a humiliating defeat against the blue half of Manchester, Man City, calls for Solskjaer to be sacked are mounting.

And the Glazers are also thought to be losing patience with the Norwegian, who has overseen the club’s longest trophy drought in over three decades.

United are also reported to be looking at other managers such as Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers, whose contract clause they are hoping to exploit.

They are also interested in high-flying  Ajax coach, Erik Ten Hag, who was reported to have been approached by Newcastle United before Eddie Howe was appointed.
