Members of the House of Representatives panel Tuesday held a close-door meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, over the Army-Shiite clash about two weeks ago in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Aminu Jaji (APC, Zamfara) told journalists after the meeting that the lawmakers had to engage the COAS in order to know what actually transpired on the fateful day leading to the shooting of the sect members by armed soldiers.

He said the panel earlier met with the Director-General of the Department of State Security Lawal Daura last week on the matter, saying that the lawmakers planned to meet with the Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase before or after Christmas.

He said the panel had made attempts to meet with leaders of the Shiite sect but to no avail as the panel could not trace any of them, saying the panel even sent a delegation of members to Zaria for that purpose but in vain.

He however said the lawmakers would find a way of reaching the sect leaders in order to meet them soon to hear their side of the story. He added that the lawmakers’ meeting with Buratai would continue as their parley was the first in a series of the meetings to come.

He said their mission was to investigate the matter and get back to the House with it, which they would do in the next two or three weeks.
