Zamfara govt inherits N300b debt from Yari administration

The Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle-led administration in Zamfara State inherited over N300 billion debt from the immediate past government of Abubakar Yari.

  The Transition Committee Chairman, Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala, who disclosed this to the governor, had reported an initial N251 billion before a comprehensive review was completed.

  While presenting the interim report to Governor Matawalle on Wednesday, the chairman also disclosed that his committee discovered multiple anomalies, poor or complete absence of adherence to due process, and in some cases gross misappropriation.

  He said that such administrative and financial miscarriages were noted in education, water supply, security, tourism, grant of contracts for the construction of the state university, and general insensitivity to dwindling situation of civil service for a long time.

    The chairman however advised Governor Matawalle to urgently set up committees that would critically look into the recommendations presented by his committee with a view to putting out the wrongs and healing the damages done to the set rules of civil service as well as the system of good governance.

  In his response, Governor Matawalle, while thanking the committee not only for a job well done, but for taking time to produce a comprehensive document that would help his administration in drawing some policies toward achieving the set goals.

   The governor also assured that his government would not waste time in studying the document so that progress could be made in putting things in the right order for the betterment of the state.
