Youths raise election stakes by increasing share of 8.5m total registration

Youths aged 18-34 years have raised their stakes in the 2023 election by increasing their registration for permanent voter card (PVC) to 3,534,837 in April, up from 2.77 million in March, the highest demographic in both months.
Youths outnumber by more than two to one combined registration for those aged 25-49 (1, 074, 424), those aged 50-69 (440,905) and those aged 70 and above (61,733) – with the three categories totalling 1,577,062.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disclosed on its weekly update on its social media platforms on Monday that it recorded a total 8,564,512 new registrations by quarter 4 week 2 of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
The number of Completed Registration is 5,111,899 out of which 2,228,913 registered online and 2,882,986 registered physically.

Breakdown
Out of the 5,111,899 who completed registration, 2,537,932 were male, 2,573,967 female and 43,153 People Living with Disabilities (PWD), according to the INEC, per reporting by Nairametrics.
Osun has the highest number of completed registration (360,548), followed by Delta (267,484), and Bayelsa (255,308).
States with the lowest number of completed registration are Imo (47,699), followed by Yobe (48,928) and the Federal Capital Territory (48,978).
Quarter 3 week 10
A total 7,009,343 registered to vote in quarter 3 week 10 of the CVR, according to figures announced in March by the INEC.
Those who completed registration were 4,009,361.
Among them, those aged 18-34 years number 2,774,823 and form the largest demographic of PVC holders.
All of this means it is the youth who will power the vote for President, Governors, and lawmakers at federal and state levels in 2023.

The INEC portal was launched on 28 June 2021 and physical registration kicked off on 26 July 2021 across its 811 state and council offices nationwide.
