Angry youths on Monday lynched a female youth corps member, Miss Chidinma Oduma for allegedly killing her boyfriend in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
But for the quick intervention of the police Miss Oduma would have been killed by the irate mob along Abak Road, Uyo. She was beaten to a pulp and stripped naked.
Our correspondent gathered that the corps member, who serves with the Bureau of Political and Legislative Affairs at Edet Akpan Avenue, allegedly hacked her boyfriend to death.
The incident was said to have occurred on Sunday at about 11.30 am at No. 219 Abak Road in Uyo.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Odiko Macdon confirmed the incident saying that the suspect has been arrested and currently in police custody.
Macdon said, ”It was about 11.30 am on Sunday morning, the police got a distress call and we responded swiftly to No. 219, Abak road, in Uyo.
“One, Chidinma Odume, a Youth Corps member serving at Bureau of Political and Legislative Affairs at Edet Akpan Avenue, said that some angry youths want to mob her but the police rescued her,” Macdon said.
The police spokesperson disclosed the police had evacuated the corpse of the victim and deposited same at a mortuary.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP, Amiengheme Andrew has commenced a full-scale investigation into the matter, adding that she would be charged to court as soon as the investigation was concluded.
An eye witness, who refused to be named, said that the corps member was caught on Sunday, January in the morning around 9.30 am trying to jump the fence of the compound of a young guy she visited.
He explained that the lady was beaten to a pulp after she was caught by an angry mob who gathered at Abak road by Afaha-offot, where the incident happened.
He said that bloodstains were all over her so she was caught and beaten to a stupor.
According to him, she allegedly hacked the young guy to death on Sunday morning.
“She killed the young guy instantly after several cuts on his stomach and face and while trying to jump out from the fence she was caught.”
