The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State that he would be disappointed and stranded in APC because he won’t get the presidential ticket of the party come 2023.
Umahi is expected to formally announce his exit from the PDP on Thursday, November 19 in a ceremony that would feature prominent APC leaders.
The PDP which is expected to meet on Thursday to review the development, in its twitter handle, wrote: “Dear Governor Dave Umahi, goodluck as you leave the PDP but you will not get the APC Presidential ticket in the APC.”
Umahi’s exit from the PDP would deal a decisive blow to the opposition party whose strength has been the South East and its dominance of the region’s politics could become tenuous owing to the fact that the APC will now have the same number of states as the PDP in the zone.
Chairman of the Ohaozara Local Government Area chapter of the party, Nnachi Victor, confirmed the expected defection of Umahi to newsmen.
According to Victor, governor Umahi gave the date during a meeting with party stakeholders at his country home, Osborn La-Palm in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area last Sunday.
“We have been officially informed of Governor Umahi’s intention to join us in APC. A meeting was called in Osborn La-Palm in Ohaozara where the governor openly told us of his intention.
“Also, our national secretariat has informed us that Umahi will be joining us formally this Thursday,”
Among those present at the meeting were the lawmaker representing Ezza South/Ikwo federal constituency, Hon. Chinedu Ogah; Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Elias Mbam; Senator Julius Ali-Ucha, the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Nwachukwu Eze and Senator Anthony Agbo.
