Former Nigerian captain, Joseph Yobo has said the Super Eagles are yet to convince him despite beating  Guinea-Bissau 1-0 on Monday night and qualifying for the rounds of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) currently going one in Cote d’Ivoire.

TheNiche had earlier reported that Opa Sangante’s own goal in the 36th minute from a cross provided by Moses Simon proved to be decisive in the encounter.

The three points saw the Super Eagles gain 7 points and qualify for the last 16 as runners-up from Group A, behind Equatorial Guinea, who also beat hosts, Cote d’Ivoire 4-0 on the same day.

But Yobo, speaking on AfroSport, said though Nigeria managed to win the encounter and qualify, they will need to improve in the knock out stages as the performance on the night was not convincing.

He, however, noted that when Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi picks, the team will start to create more goal scoring chances.

He said: “It was not a convincing victory even though we got the deserved result we needed. The team still need more cohesion because from the midfield, we are yet to get it right.

“However, we have more attacking players than midfield players. But then, when Iwobi picks, I am sure the team will create more goal scoring chances.

“I think keeping a clean sheet is another positive result from today’s game and it shows the defence is doing something good.”
