World Athletics clears U.S. based Nwachukwu to run for Nigeria in Budapest

World Athletics (WA) has approved quarter miler, Dubem Nwachukwu’s change of allegiance proposal to compete for Nigeria. 

The 23 year old will compete in the 400m event for Nigeria at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary afte successfully switching allegiance from the United States to Nigeria.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria, (AFN) had provisionally included the athlete in Nigeria’s Team to the World

Championships pending the approval of his request by World Athletics.

Nwachukwu, who holds a 44.81 lifetime best achieved last June, now has the onerous task of becoming the first Nigerian to run in the final of the event since Sunday Bada (now late) finished in eighth place in 1995 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

He will also be seeking to become the second Nigerian to make the podium in the event after Innocent Egbunike who won a silver medal in 1987 in Rome, Italy
