Woman, clergyman docked for allegedly procuring sex

Procuring sex, he said is an offence that contravenes the provisions of sections 224 (2) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

A 54 – year old woman, Oluwatosin Akintunde and clergyman, Afolabi Samson, 39, were on Thursday docked in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court for allegedly procuring sex.

The police charged Akintunde, who resides in the Oke-Ado area, Ibadan, and Afolabi with two counts of conspiracy and illegal procuring sex.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Sikiru Ibrahim, said they committed the offence in March, at Ososami area, Oke–Ado, Ibadan.

He alleged that they lured Ms Aderonke Onakoya, 38 to indulge in the act.

“Afolabi asked the woman to have sex with him while Akintunde allegedly persuaded the complainant to accept the offer,” he said.

Procuring sex, he said is an offence that contravenes the provisions of sections 224 (2) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Serifat Adesina, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Adesina adjourned the matter until June 10, for hearing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the law criminalises the procurement of a girl or woman to have unlawful carnal connection with any other person or persons either in Nigeria or elsewhere.(NAN)
