Wizkid breaks down at mum’s funeral, says it’s his deepest pain

Wizkid also prayed for strength to bear the irreparable loss, adding that he is lost without his mother

Ace Afrobeats singer and songwriter,  Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid on Thursday got emotional while giving a speech at his mother’s wake service

TheNiche had earlier reported that Mrs Jane Dolapo Balogun, the mother of the Grammy-winning Nigerian artiste, passed away about two months ago.

The mother of three gave up the ghost at around 1.30 am on Friday, August 18.

Her demise was confirmed to journalists on the same day by Wizkid’s manager, Sunday Are, saying; “Yes, she died this morning, at about 1.30 am.”

However, speaking in a now-viral video on social media during his mother’s funeral, the singer revealed that the pain of burying her was profound and hurts deeply.

He went on to say he is lost without his mum at the event which was held at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos.

Wizkid, who was in tears, described the pain he was going through as the deepest he had ever felt since he was born.

Speaking via the video, Wizkid said: “The pain is profound. It hurts deeply. The deepest pain I have ever felt in my life. I’m lost but I pray God will comfort every one of us.

“I’m lost without you Mom, I love you so much”.

After the clip made the rounds on social media, his fans trooped to the comment section of the most to offer their condolences.

An internet user, ayzne_ said: “Death of a mother hits differently especially when you both are so close to each other.. May God console him in this hard time.”

Another netizen, lovedoctorfab: “When your mom was your backbone and everything, omo that feeling of losing your world is unexplainable. God comfort him ❤️.”

iamdoziefineboi___added: “He’s so hurt but the camera flashes won’t even let him grieve in peace. The price of fame. My condolences to him”

While birdiebaddy wrote: “The pain of losing a mother can never end it’s been 15 yrs i lost mine and it feels like yesterday now that i my also a mother i really need my mom cos so many things she could be helping me with with my daughter situation lonely world.”
