Ihedioha defeated Uche Nwosu of Action Alliance (AA) who is also Governor Rochas Okorocha’s son in-law and Chief of Staff and serial contestant, Ifeanyi Ararume of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to clinch the number one seat in the state.

Scenes of celebration erupted in the streets of Owerri and Mbaise, the hometown of Ihedioha immediately the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Commissioner, Professor Chukwuemeka Ezeonu announced Ihedioha as the winner of the election.

People were seen dismantling Nwosu’s campaign posters and billboards following news that he has lost the election.

Analysts believe the outgoing governor Okorocha incurred the wrath of Imo citizens when he reduced governance to family business by foisting Nwosu, his son-in law as the governorship candidate of APC.

Nwosu left APC to AA when he was defeated in the primaries by Uzodimma.
