Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike on Thursday said he could have prolonged the emergency rule in Rivers State if he wanted to.
He made this known while featuring as a guest on Channels Television programme, “Politics Today” following the return of the oil-rich state to democratic rule.
TheNiche had earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu reinstated River State Governor, Sim Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the state’s House of Assembly after six months suspension on Wednesday.
Reacting to the development during his interview, Wike said some individuals he described as crisis builders are determined to ensure that the crisis in the state persisted.
According to him, they do not want the unrest to end because they were benefiting from it.
He added that he has spoken with Governor Fubara and insisted that peace has now returned to the state.
He said, “I was watching on television today, there are people who are natural crisis builders who think they can only benefit when there is a crisis.
“If we don’t want this state of emergency to be lifted, we would have done one or two things to ensure that it continues.”

Speaking on Fubara’s whereabouts, he said there is no law requiring him to resume work immediately as governor.
The former state governor, however, suggested that his successor might have had other engagements.
Wike added, “There’s no law that says he must resume work today as governor. I don’t understand the way we operate. Okay? I was sworn in today, for example, does not mean I go to office tomorrow. You don’t know what my programmes are. You don’t know what the governor has scheduled to do.
“You don’t even know where he is. You don’t know, governance is not that you must be in the office governing. No, it’s not true.
“Do you know whether he’s in Abuja doing one or two things? Do you know whether he’s in Lagos? I’m not a CSO, his protocol officer.”
