Wike is soul of PDP, says Fayose

Fayose said Atiku is not against Wike but there are people surrounding the former Vice President who do not mean well to him.

A former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, on Friday described the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, as the soul of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike has been in a war of words with some chieftains of the party over his resolution that the national chairman of PDP, Iyorchia Ayu must resign.

The governor’s demand is seen as fallout from the party’s failure to hand the presidential ticket to a southerner.

Ayu is from Benue State which is North Central while the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is from Adamawa State which is North-East.

While inaugurating a project in Obuama, Rivers State on Friday, Fayose urged Atiku’s allies to do the “needful” to ensure he wins the presidential election, referring to a statement made by Wike that Atiku supports the move for Ayu to step down.

Fayose said Atiku is not against Wike but there are people surrounding the former Vice President who do not mean well to him.

“There is no living being within this party and outside this party that will not acknowledge your contribution to this party. You are the soul of this party even till now. What you do, how many people do it?” Fayose told Wike.

The ex-governor added that Wike’s “good works will never go unrewarded”

“I believe the needful will be done because winning an election is all that matters. Wike has not come out to say that Atiku Abubakar is not the presidential candidate.

“I was there the second day after the election when our candidate, the former vice-president, visited the house, the residence of Governor Wike, and we had mutual conversations. We were all happy. Everything was in place to move forward. I spoke at that meeting, but we don’t want to aggravate this situation,” Fayose said.
