The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike on Tuesday approved N70,000 as the new National Minimum Wage for staff of the nation’s capital.
This was disclosed by the Acting Head of the Civil Service of FCT, Mrs. Grace Adayilo.
In a statement made available by her Press Secretary, Ewhenji Anthony Odey, Adayilo said Wike also granted approval for payment of three months arrears for all staff of the Administration with effect from November, 2024.
She went on to add that the move was part of the commitment of the Minister to the welfare of the staff.

The statement read: “This gesture will further spur the entire staff of the Administration to support the Minister to continue to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Mrs. Adayilo equally thanked the Minister for always granting expeditious approval for payment of staff allowances and claims.”
The development follows President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the new N70,000 Minimum Wage Bill into law in May 2024, after months of negotiation with organized labour.
Prior to this, the FCT Chapters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had threatened to shut down activities on November 30, 2024, following directives from the national arms of the labour unions to embark on a nationwide strike over the non-implementation of the minimum wage by some states.
The unions also alleged that the Wike-led administration failed to meet with the labour unions since his inauguration in August 2023.
