An Area Court has dissolved the marriage between certain Wuraola Surajudeen and Surajudeen Iya-Onitasi after Wuraola refunded to him the N200,000 bride price he paid on her.
Judge Hammed Ajumonbi of the Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, pronounced the dissolution of the Islamic marriage after the wife refunded the bride price to the husband.
Ajumonbi held that the parties, both residents of Abayawo in Ilorin, could go their separate ways since there is no child between them.
The court, however, asked the woman to file another case to claim her belongings still in the custody of the man, saying the application before it was only for divorce.
Wuraola filed for divorce on November 27 citing a lack of love and affection as reasons.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Surajudeen, who did not oppose the application, had insisted on the refund of the bride price he paid.
However, Wuraola while returning the bride price, told the court that she did not take any of her personal items while leaving their matrimonial home.
She urged the court to grant her permission to pack out her belongings, but the court refused and asked her to file an application to that effect.
