Police have arrested a housewife, Fatima Dzuma, who confessed to killing her husband Baba Aliyu with a pestle in his sleep at Lafiyagi Dzwafu village in Katcha Council of Niger State.

Sources in the village said  Fatima, who was Aliyu’s junior wife, killed him following a fight they had earlier over her childlessness.

She married him about three years ago, and was yet to have a child with him, whereas the first wife had just given birth – Fatima’s lack of children having been a source of constant quarrel between her and her husband.

She reportedly told fellow villagers that she killed Aliyu and dumped his body in a bush because he had beaten her the night before, and she decided to take revenge without knowing he would die in the process.

Niger Police Command Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident and the arrest of Fatima as the suspect. He also confirmed that the body of Aliyu was found in a bush close to the house.

“She [Fatima] confessed that she used a pestle to hit her husband when he was asleep, and she later tied the deceased with clothes and rope and rolled the corpse to a nearby bush with a mat,” Abiodun disclosed.

“The corpse was taken to General Hospital Bida for post-mortem while the suspect was taken to custody. She will soon be transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation and prosecution”.

Wife refunds N200k bride price to husband, court dissolves marriage

In December last year, an Area Court dissolved the marriage between certain Wuraola Surajudeen and Surajudeen Iya-Onitasi after Wuraola refunded to him the N200,000 bride price he paid on her.

Judge Hammed Ajumonbi of the Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, pronounced the dissolution of the Islamic marriage after the wife refunded the bride price to the husband.

Ajumonbi held that the parties, both residents of Abayawo in Ilorin, could go their separate ways since there is no child between them.

The court, however, asked the woman to file another case to claim her belongings still in the custody of the man, saying the application before it was only for divorce.

Wuraola filed for divorce on November 27 citing a lack of love and affection as reasons.

Surajudeen, who did not oppose the application, had insisted on the refund of the bride price he paid.

However, Wuraola while returning the bride price, told the court that she did not take any of her personal items while leaving their matrimonial home.

She urged the court to grant her permission to pack out her belongings, but the court refused and asked her to file an application to that effect.
