Anambra State former Governor and the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that he rebuilt and expanded the Head-bridge to Upper Iweka road to make the area beautiful and modern.
He disclosed this at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Awada during the celebration of his birthday with students of Sedes Sapientia primary and secondary schools.
Obi, who later presented with the cheque of N1 million for the continued improvement of their schools, said that as a governor, each time he crossed from Onitsha to Asaba it would appear that he moved from heaven to hell.
“Out of inner pain I personally experienced, the type most of us experience about Nigeria when we travel out of this country, I told myself that I must do that road as the first impression of Anambra State by those from other states. That was how I came to expand the road to an eight-lane,” Obi said.
The former governor said that it was the same care and concern he had for the state that made him clear close to N40 billion arrears of pension, did so many roads, returned schools to the Church and improved them as never witnessed before and upon that left over N75 billion in the treasury.
Obi also advised the students to continue to take their education seriously
to become successful in life, while disclosing to them that he could not celebrate his birthday on Friday July 19, 2019 because of the proceedings at the Presidential Election Tribunal.
Reviewing the global trend, Obi said that the world was moving from baggage to knowledge economy and that only those that acquired education would jump on the bandwagon of progress and success.
Besides, the priest in charge, Fr. Vincent Ezenwaka, had described Obi as a man different from others, whose concern for the good of the society was genuine and complete. The event witnessed activities, which included presentation and breaking of birthday cake, address of students by Mr. Obi, question and answer session, photographs, among others.
