On Tuesday, January 26, President Muhammadu Buhari accepted the resignation of his Service Chiefs with whom he had worked from inception and appointed new officers to the positions.
One of the service chiefs whose appointment is greatly expected following the alarming rate of insecurity and militancy is the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), whose role in the internal and external security of the nation is very much desired.
With the appointment of Major General Leo Irabor, as the Chief of Defence Staff Nigerians look forward to better security network and serious battle to militancy, terrorism, kidnapping and Boko Haram insurgency in collaboration with other service chiefs.
Here are some of the pedigrees of the new CDS.
Major General Leo Irabor served as Commander, Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army, (TRADOC), Minna. He also served as Chief of Training and Operations, Defence headquarters.
He served as Theatre Commander, Operation LAFIYA DOLE. Irabor who hails from the suburbs of Agbor in Delta State was a member of the RC 39. At a time, he served as Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff and was head of the Multi-National Joint Task Force as its Field Commander.
He is a trained engineer. The fall of Sambisa and other territories hitherto under the control of Boko Haram was successful due to his commanding styles, a military source told our correspondent. His colleagues enthuse that even as a General, he has been modest, down-to-earth and not materialistic in his activities.
