Why Dino’s kidnap story does not really add up

On July 26, Ben Murray-Bruce, the senator representing Bayelsa East, claimed that Senator Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West, had been kidnapped.

Murray-Bruce said his source was Moses Melaye, younger brother of the senator who told him that a car blocked the vehicle in which Melaye was travelling. He said the senator was overpowered and forced into a Toyota Sienna.

The following day, Melaye tweeted that he had been released.

“Thank God once again for escaping another dangerous attack. I also thank Nigerians for their prayers and show of Love. Spent 11 hours in the wilderness traumatized but God preserved me. God is the best and in whom ONLY I trust. They will continue to try. WE SHALL OVERCOME!!!”

In the tweet, Melaye carefully avoided saying that he was kidnapped. He simply said he ‘escaped another dangerous attack.’

In the same tweet, Melaye did not explain what his attackers said were their reason for abducting him.

There was also no information from Melaye’s family that the ‘so called’ kidnappers had called and demanded for ransom. How was he even able to escape from the kidnappers? He did not explain.

The ‘so called’ abduction of the senator coincided on the day he was to appear before a Lokoja High Court in an going criminal trial he was facing.

This is not the first time Melaye would claim alleged attack and assassination attempts on his life for which the police have debunked.

This latest claim might just also be spurious.
