When Determiners became commodities

Onoriona said: “So I taught “DETERMINERS” today in JSS1 Class. I gave a series of examples and the students also gave examples with sentences. So I was convinced they understood until I gave them classwork. I never knew determiners are commodities sold in the market. Chiaaaaaa I really cannot stop laughing.”

In English Grammar, Determiners are modifying words that determine the kind of reference a noun or noun group has. It could come in the form of an article – atheevery. Or cardinal numbers – one, two, three. Or ordinal numbers – first, second, third. It could also be demonstrative – this, that, these, those. But some students thought it was a commodity sold in the market.

A corps member serving in Enugu State, Onoriona Monicnob, has shared the classwork of some of her students who really believed determiners were sold in the market.

According to Onoriona, she asked JSS1 students to make sentences with “Determiners” (a word, or phrase that precedes a noun or noun phrase.

One of the students thought determiners are commodities sold in the market and went on to list the ones they knew.
