Former West Ham United and Three Lions defender, Alvin Martin, has tipped North London side, Arsenal, to lift this season’s English Premier League (EPL) trophy after beating the Hammers.

According to Alvin, the Gunners 3-1 comeback win over his former side on Boxing Day shows Arteta’s men have got what it takes to go all the way and lift the trophy 22 years after they last did under Arsene Wenger.

West Ham took the lead at the Emirate Stadium on Monday night through Said Benrahma from the penalty spot after William Saliba was judged to have brought down English winger, Jarrod Bowen

But Arsenal turned the game on its head with goals from the trio of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah in a second-half display of excellence.

The result sees Arsenal extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven and eight points ahead of Newcastle and champions, Manchester City respectively.

After the derby win, Alvin Martin praised the Gunners, saying their display shows they have courage, character, know-how and other attributes needed to win the league.

He said, “They didn’t give West Ham time to catch their breath. It takes a lot of belief and know-how to do that.

“It tells me that they haven’t just got technique and attacking philosophy, it tells me they’ve got courage, character, togetherness, know-how, intelligence, all the things you need to win a title,”

Arsenal next face the high-flying Brighton side, who have shown no respect to big teams in the league this season on the last day of the year.
