Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State yesterday said the party would not be intimidated by Senator Ubali Shitu’s defection to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying that the action was a welcome development. Addressing a press conference in Dutse, Deputy Chairman of the party in the state, Mallam Ango Malam Madori, said the action was not surprising since for quite some times, the senator ceased to be a member of the ruling party, because he had not been actively involved in APC affairs.
“The continued stay of Senator Ubali Shitu in our fold will increase confusion and misunderstanding. Therefore his exit is a welcome development as we will be rest assured of peace and harmony in our party.
Madori was optimistic that the defection of Shitu would not affect the party’s chances in the 2019 general election, since we have the majority votes of his constituency, and the entire machinery of winning elections at our disposal. Also speaking, Hadejia APC Chairman, Alhaji Magaji Munkaila, said the defected senator had nothing to show case as his major achievement to the people of his constituency, since he was elected.
In his remarks, Munkaila described Shitu’s defection as a miscalculation as people of Jigawa North East senatorial district would ever remain grateful to Governor Badaru for the execution of developmental projects aimed at moving the zone ahead.
