VIDEO: Wale Edun spotted in Abuja amid health speculations

By Jeffrey Agbo

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, resurfaced in Abuja on Sunday, days after rumours circulated about his health status and alleged absence from the country.

According to The Nation, Edun was sighted at Fraser Suites in the nation’s capital, where he attended a closed-door business meeting with a visiting Qatari delegation.

The minister, who had been rumoured to be “indisposed” and possibly receiving treatment abroad, was seen walking into the venue on Sunday afternoon and later departing alongside the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, after an hour-long session.

His presence comes after a week of speculation suggesting he had travelled to the United Kingdom for medical attention.

A video shared by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on X showed Edun dressed in a cream-coloured Agbada during the engagement.

Earlier in the week, the finance minister was also spotted at an art exhibition in London. A clip posted by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, captured him at the O’DA Art Gallery booth during the 1-54 London Art Fair at Somerset House on October 15.

Onanuga later clarified that Edun’s trip to the United Kingdom was for “an officially sanctioned few days of rest from the rigours of managing the Nigerian economy.”

The speculation surrounding Edun’s health intensified after his absence from the recent World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., where Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, led Nigeria’s delegation — fuelling rumours of a possible cabinet reshuffle by President Tinubu.
