Senator Ali Wakili representing Bauchi South has partnered with the National Teachers Institute (NTI) for the training of 100 teachers from his constituency.
The Director General of NTI, Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare, disclosed this during a one-day training held at the Professor Iya Abubakar Community Resource Centre Bauchi, as part of the senator’s constituency project on human capacity development embarked upon by the senator in his constituency.
He said that the importance of teachers’ training cannot be over-emphasised because teachers are the bedrock and the heart of national development.
Azare, who was represented by the NTI acting Registrar, Mallam Muhammad Usman, said that teachers’ education and welfare were the factors which motivate them to put in their best as such they should be exposed to new skills, knowledge and attitudes.
“It is on this note that I will like to encourage other senators to key into the capacity-building workshop for teachers in their respective zones. This will help raise their popularity rating in their constituencies as well as bolster the image of participating teachers. State governments and other stakeholders should also emulate the good example of the distinguished senator by sponsoring workshops and refresher courses for their teachers,”he said.
Contributing, Senator Ali Wakili said that the training was part of the fulfilment of his campaign promises to the people of his constituency.
He added that the promise he made was to provide a good representation for the people and undertake their human capital development in various sectors so that they can enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Wakili reminded the teachers that they have a responsibility to monitor the activities of the children placed under their care and protect them from current ills pervading their young minds through technology.
The senator lamented that despite the contributions of teachers to national development, they are the most neglected as their salaries are always held for months while their entire welfare is poor.
He urged them to utilise the opportunity and develop their capacities and impact positively on the lives of their students.
Also, the chairman of State Universal Basis Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Ibrahim Yahaya Yero, said that the training would avail the trainees with a focus on teaching as well as an avenue to widen their scope.
Yero, who was represented by the Director School Services, Alhaji Baba Barau, noted that training of teachers will help overcome the current challenges in a constantly teaching and learning environment.
He urged the teachers to try and step down what they will learn during the training, adding that SUBEB is determined to ensure the provision of quality teachers for effective delivery of knowledge.
He added that the introduction of new teaching and learning method has necessitated the continued training and building the capacities of teachers to cope with the trend.
On his part, the leading resource person for the training, Professor Mansur Malumfashi, commended senator Wakili for his foresight to train teachers to facilitate quality teaching.
He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity given to him and the other resource persons that they will do their best to impart on the participants.
