Waiting for Weird MC

-

The name Adesola Idowu may not ring a bell with some people; but when Weird MC is mentioned, many readily remember the ‘rappatainer’ who sang the popular ‘Allen Avenue’ in the 90s.

Despite not selling an impressive number of copies, critics agreed that the song was ahead of its time. Ever since, Weird MC became a force to reckon with in the entertainment industry.

Although her conservative parents did not encourage her choice of show business, she went on to become one of Africa’s most popular female rappers and one of the few Nigerian women associated with Afrobeat.

This artiste’s mode of dressing became controversial as some fans started seeing her as a ‘he’ rather than a ‘she’ and she didn’t bother to dispel speculations with a male partner. Even when she attended a family function recently, she was dressed ‘as usual’, though she promised to step out in a traditional outfit one day.

In an interview, Weird MC indicated her interest in politics as she said she is giving it a ‘serious’ thought.

“I am tempted to go into politics, going by the simplicity I saw in Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State and Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers State,” she revealed.

Now, that would be a serious topic of discussion; a Weird MC in traditional outfit probably in a House of Assembly gesticulating with her left hand!
