By Jeffrey Agbo
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has rolled out its Digital Certificate Services System, branded WAEC DigiCert, in its five member nations—Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The development was announced in a statement released on Monday and signed by the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters in Accra, Ghana, Demianus Ojijeogu, on behalf of the Registrar.
According to the Council, the Digital Certificate Services platform is “a mobile and Web-based application that provides enormous benefits to the various stakeholders,” noting that it offers “simple features that enable users to access, request, confirm or share digital forms of the original certificates.”
WAEC explained that the system also allows candidates to retrieve lost examination numbers with ease.
Reassuring users, the Council stated that “the system is reliable, the authenticity of the certificates is guaranteed, and the cost benefits to users cannot be overstated.”

It further revealed that after a successful pilot phase in Nigeria, WAEC DigiCert “received positive feedback from candidates and educational institutions worldwide.”
Encouraging widespread adoption, the Council advised stakeholders “to use WAEC DigiCert to avoid administrative challenges and bottlenecks associated with manual certificate issuance and collection.”
WAEC, however, emphasised that “the usual printing and issuance of certificates will not be affected by this innovation.”
The Council added that the DigiCert mobile app can be downloaded from the App Store and Play Store for iOS and Android users, respectively, while additional details are available on its official website and social media channels.
In a related update, WAEC also announced the release of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination results for private candidates.
It said candidates should first check their results via www.waecdirect.org before proceeding to www.waec.org to access their released digital certificate copies.
