Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has explained why he removed Eze Sergeant Awuse as chairman of the state’s traditional council.

Sergeant Awuse, the paramount ruler of Emohua Kingdom in Emohua local government area of Rivers State, was appointed chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council by the then Governor Nyesom Wike.

After Wike fell out with his estranged godson Fubara, it cracked the Rivers State government with officials and even traditional rulers pledging loyalties to either Wike or Fubara.

At an event on Friday with traditional rulers in Rivers State, Governor Fubara said he removed Sergeant Awuse as chairman of the state traditional council because the man hauled what he described as a special insult at him.

He said Eze Awuse in his capacity as chairman of Rivers Traditional Rulers Council produced a calendar without his photograph on it, which he said was deliberate to undermine his capacity.

“He made a calendar for the year 2024 and the picture of me and my vice was missing. It shows they are not with us, so by the power vested in me I announce the termination of his chairmanship,” Fubara said.
