A High Court in Akwa Ibom State has handed the death sentence to Uduak Akpan, the first accused in the murder trial of a job seeker, Iniubong Umoren.
Umoren was murdered by the 20-year-old Akpan who turns out to be a serial rapist posing as a recruitment agent.
Umoren had just graduated from the University of Uyo and was waiting for her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) call-up when Akpan set her up with a fictitious job offer and then murdered her.
Akpan was given the death sentence by Justice Bassey Nkanang on Thursday.

After hearing his fate, Akpan attempted to escape but was overpowered by security operatives who bundled him and threw him inside a waiting van.
The judge found Akpan guilty of all the charges preferred against him. He was then given the death by hanging for the charge of murder, and life imprisonment in the charge of rape preferred against him.
However, the court discharged and acquitted his father, Frank and sister, Anwan Bassey (2nd and 3rd accused) who were standing trial for accessory after the fact to murder.
Iniubong Umoren is the 26-year-old job seeker murdered on April 29, 2021 on Oron Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
