Senator Anyim Ude, veteran journalist, dies at 81

Senator Anyim Ude was a veteran journalist and administrator with vast experience in public service, especially in media matters.

Veteran journalist and politician, Senator Anyim Ude, is dead.

He was aged 81 years.

Senator Ude, who was born on June 1, 1941, died on Monday.

A statement by his son, Nnanna Ude, on behalf of the family, broke the news on Thursday.

Titled, “Senator (Elder) Anyim Ude, MON – Call to eternal glory,” the statement read:

“It is with heavy hearts but total gratitude to the Almighty God that our family announces the passing of our dearly beloved father, Senator (Elder) Anyim Chukwu Ude, MON.

“Born on June 1, 1941, he departed this world and joined the saints on Monday, May 15, 2023.

“Details of arrangements for the celebration of his life will be announced by the family as we seek your prayers for the repose of his soul to eternal life in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Anyim Ude was elected Senator for the Ebonyi South constituency of Ebonyi State, Nigeria, in 2007 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Before going to the Senate, he had a career in the Nigerian Public Service spanning 42 years.

He was a veteran journalist and administrator with vast experience in public service, especially in media matters.

He joined the public service of former Eastern Nigeria as a clerk in 1960 and later joined the Eastern Nigeria Information Service, printers and publishers of ‘Nigerian Outlook’ in May 1965 as a reporter.

At the end of the Nigerian Civil War in 1970, he trained as a journalist and broadcaster in Nigeria and overseas.

He later worked with the East Central State Broadcasting Service (ECBS), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Imo Broadcasting Service (IBS) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

Senator Anyim Ude was the first General Manager of Radio Nigeria, Owerri (1981–1985); first Director-General of Imo Broadcasting Corporation (1985–1991); first Director-General of Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (1991–1996); first Chief Executive of Ebonyi Broadcasting Service.

He was also the first Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Ebonyi State (1997–1999).
